In this episode of Sessions, we met up with Adam Vu Noir at Musink where he spoke about putting a touch of surrealism into his classic illustrative approach during a badass portrait tattoo.
Known for his ultra-clean, smokey smooth illustrative works of art, this video highlights Adam Vu Noir’s take on Surrealism with one of his iconic melted faces. The design was created during a happy accident: while tattooing in Africa, a client of Adam’s asked for a lady head tattoo. After drawing the design, he put it through a copy machine and the scanner glitched, producing the surreal warped portraits we know and love.
Like many tattooists, Adam found a love of tattooing through music. Local punk shows put him in touch with a culture that he cherishes; through tattooing, he found an expressive outlet that pushed him to travel the globe. One of only two tattoo artists who has tattooed on all seven continents, his outstanding style and dedication to the art form have cemented his place as one of the best tattooers in the world. Although he consistently travels, Adam Vu recently put his efforts into opening Strangelove LA in Echo Park, Los Angeles, returning to the Southern California that he knows and loves. From Chicano, Japanese, Fineline, and more, Adam Vu blurs the boundaries of aesthetics to create his own authentic expressions.
Musink was created in 2007, by one of our favorite drummers of all time: Travis Barker. An awesome festival where music and art collide, the event blends a love of punk rock, tattoo art, low riders, hot babes, good food and more. Each year, Travis brings together heavy hitters across the industries to create an experience that is like nothing else. Spanning three days on the Southern Coast of California, the festival includes hundreds of incredible tattoo artists, including some Tattoodo Ambassadors, as well as several of top musicians, and even lowrider car show brought to you by Travis Barker’s Famous Stars and Straps.
